5 more ways to improve your eco-habits

• Go natural! Skip herbicides or pesticides when caring for your lawn and garden. And turn off the leaf blower, too. You’ll lessen noise and air pollution and raking leaves is great exercise.

• Strip It! Put all your kitchen appliances on a power strip so they can be switched off and on quickly.

• Ditch Your Dryer! Take a tip from Australia and abandon your power hungry clothes dryer. Use a clothesline to dry your clothes outside instead.

• Eliminate waste! Don’t throw out kitchen and lawn scraps, start a compost pile or barrel with them. Composting lightens the load being taken to the landfill considerably, and is one of the best ways to have natural fertilizer for your plants. (Read Spin the Barrel — Making a Rotating Barrel Composter for more info on composting.) Also, change all your light bulbs to CFL's.

• Be fuel wise. Ease up a little on the gas pedal. It really works.

Small changes add up quickly. If we all made just a few, the improvements could be dramatic.

It's our world, and it is a new year :D the best time to make a change...

First of all, happy new year :D

hope that everyone resolve to care more about the environment this year :))

In my list of pious intentions are little things I want to do in this year to save more or less our environment ..:

1. I want to take the bus or drive with the car as less as    possible and go by foot
2. I open the blinds instead of turning on the light during the day
3. I won't go to sleep with the computer or TV on

...
the future is in our hands, if everyone would do a little change in his life to save the world, we would be stronger then anything else together, because we are the one who are responsible for the environment ... so let's do something for it :)

What is the best way to help our environment ?

The best way to help our environment is to develop global ecological conscience and establish a new set of values where our environment and nature in general would rank above money and power. However, in a world driven primarily by the hunger for money such ideas are nothing but a nice dream and an utopia.

The environmental condition of our planet gets worse by the each day; the negative impact of climate change is already knocking on our door, there's also a huge biodiversity loss because many plants and animals are going extinct, water and air pollution is killing millions of people across the globe, and our forests, especially rainforests are disappearing.

The future outlook looks anything but bright, and by the current looks of it our future generations will likely struggle to survive. What kind of heritage will we leave to them? Do they really deserve to suffer because of our negligence and our disrespect towards the Mother Nature?

World leaders worry only about economy and their political interests, while environmental issues usually end up in "wait for better times" agenda. The world leaders still fail to realize that without the right action there won't be better times, and that things will soon get totally out of our control.

Take for example a climate change phenomenon. If only half of that what scientists are saying is true then we are surely heading for the scenario seen only in movies of disaster.

It certainly looks like the world has opted for the waiting strategy. But where is the logic behind the "waiting for worst to happen" strategy? Or do we still naively believe in some sort of miracle that will remove all environmental issues in the blick of an eye?

The time for action is running out, and yet so many people remain ignorant about it. Many people care very little or none at all about what will our planet look like in 50 or 100 years from now.

We must ask ourselves what will happen to our children and grandchildren if we remain ignorant about our environment. Their destiny lies in our own hands.

10 things to do to save our environment

1.Find a solution to tackle huge biodiversity loss. Many animal and plant species are endangered or at the very brink of the extinction. Preserving Earth's rich biodiversity is one of the key things for our future well being.

2.Find a solution to halt climate change. In order to do so world needs to drastically reduce carbon emissions on global level and this can be only achieved with a transition to renewable energy and a new climate change deal.

3.Decrease the global level of pollution. In many parts of the world pollution is taking heavy toll, particularly in developing countries. Polluted water and air lead to many different diseases and do our environment a great harm.

4.Protect our oceans and seas. Our oceans and seas are not dumping places for all kind of waste, they are origin of life and areas with very rich biodiversity. The life in our oceans already suffers from climate change and pollution and if we don't do something about it things will soon become much worse.

5.More environmental laws. Our world desperately needs new environmental laws that would do much better job in protecting our environment than current laws do. These laws should be strict with huge punishment for offenders.

6.More scientific research on national as well as global level. Our environment is constantly changing and without scientific aid we won't be able to follow these changes. Knowledge is the key thing in efforts to save our environment and we therefore need comprehensive scientific studies not only to point out to different environmental problems but also to propose solutions for these problems.

7.Global environmental conscience. People need to value environment much more than they do today because Earth is our only home and if we want what is best for us we will do everything in our power to protect our environment, not only for ourselves but for our future generations too.

8.Ensure funding for poor countries. Poor countries are not able to protect their environment from different environmental issues because they don't have enough money. Rich countries should therefore establish funds that would support the environmental protection in poor, developing countries.

9.United world. World will lose the battle against the variety of different environmental issues if not united. Acting as one is the only chance to get the things done. Just take a look at the climate change talks – no moving forward because of difference in opinion between the developed and the developing world.

10.Every hand helps. Each and every one of us can do some simple thing to help our environment. Lots of small things can create one huge thing of gigantic proportions so every hand helps. Don't forget that by protecting your environment you are protecting not only your wellbeing but the wellbeing of your children and grandchildren as well as our future generations.
